“Spot on playlists: Old School Hip Hop & R&B” By DJ Maximus 3000, Arketipo 187 January 25, 2012
It’s Back! Happy New Year everyone! Took a bit of hiatus but, I’m back stronger than ever.
SPOT ON: Old School Hip Hop and R & B
I dug in deep into some of my favorite lyric-driven, sample-based Hip Hop and R & B classics. There are some slow jams in here, as well as stuff from before and after the East Coast/West Coast Gangsta Rap Era (from both coasts and the south). I used to be quite the connoisseur of Hip Hop , the kind that was poetic and skillfully written. Text book: rap roots, danceable beats, use of call-and-response vocals, lyrics about the rap industry and ambiguous lyrics. Featuring A Tribe Called Quest, Outkast, SWV, Erykah Badu, Beastie Boys, Wu-Tang Clan, Digable Planets, KRS-One, The Pharcyde, and more.
You can share, interact with, and repost these playlists as much as you like, you can even access them right on your smartphone and I will be adding more and more content to each of these playlists week after week so make sure you come back to check them out often. Look out for an upcoming “Max Pix” and more interviews with some great indie artists.
